harnessing effects can greatly improve your dueling game, and if u want "vanilla cards" try skill-drain barbaros, using high attack summons that cut attack when summoned, regain their attack with skill drain active. also read all cards on the field and try to judge what the optimal play could be based on cards in hand count, graveyard, banished, and in play cards, even that of what could lurk in the enemies extra deck and your own.
